Introduction:
Optimal spares inventory analysis
identifies the optimal set of components to hold in inventory to minimize
inventory costs while maximizing system equipment availability. Optimal
spares analysis helps identify the right parts (and number of parts) to hold
for repair, based on data about system and component failures. The
spares analysis, in conjunction with maintenance cost analysis, helps identify
the best maintenance strategies for reliability improvement.
WinR
couples reliability modeling and combinatorial optimization to develop optimal
spare parts inventories.
Figure 1. Example results of Optimal Spare Analysis for
four levels of budget.
Benefits:
-
Reduces the cost of acquiring and maintaining an adequate spares inventory,
-
Ensures that spares in inventory are related to observed equipment reliability,
-
Reduces the likelihood that spares will go unused, and
-
Avoids stocking unnecessary spares.
Capabilities:
-
Analyze equipment reliability based on maintenance records,
-
Identify key failures contributing to down time, unavailability, and cost, and
-
Develop optimal spares inventory based on observed equipment performance and
down time/cost objectives.
